Lab 8. Review for Lab Practical Exam 1
This is an informal lab (i.e. we will NOT meet), because of fall break. However, to help you prepare for the lab practical, materials are provided below to study over the fall break period.
Activities
1. Review Insect Identification to Order
Review the following materials:
- Your own notes, and “Lab 2: Insect Orders“
- The “Orders and Families Required for Spot ID” tab with a list of links (no families tested on first lab practical)
- Spot ID Characters handout with list of characters for each insect order
- Spot-ID Narrated Slide Show that illustrates how to recognize Spot ID characters
- “Orders Practice Test” (on course Moodle Site):
2. Review Insect External Anatomy
Review the following materials:
- Your own notes in the Lab 4 handout. Remember, you won’t be asked about wing veins on the exam
- The interactive features in “Lab 4. Morphology 1: External Anatomy“
- Lab 4 demonstrations on antennae, mouthparts, legs, wings, etc.
3. Review Insect Internal Anatomy
Review the following materials:
- Your own notes in the Lab 6 Handout
- Roach Guts Gallery (pictures of structures we looked at in lab)
- Audio Slide Show (step-by-step description of the dissection process)
- Orkin Virtual Roach (interactive drawn images of roach)
