Common Name:  Stag Beetles

Description:  Most stag beetles are medium to large insects with prominent mandibles.  They are usually found in woodlands where the larvae feed on decaying wood.   In some species, the males have unusually large mandibles which they use in fights with other males to establish territorial dominance.
