Pronunciation:  [Ha⋅LIP·li⋅dae]

Common Name:  Crawling Water Beetles

Description:  Haliplids are small, oval beetles with black spots on a brown or yellow body.   They are easy to recognize by the large, plate-like coxae of the hind legs that meet along the mid-line and cover most of the ventral surface of the abdomen.   They feed mostly on algae and other aquatic plant material.
