Description: Carabidae is the second largest family of beetles in North America. They are distinctive from one another in size, shape, and color. Ground beetles are typically night feeders and the majority are predaceous. They can be found under stones, logs, or piles of debris. Tiger beetles are diurnal predators known for their active flight and rapid movements. All Carabidae can be recognized by their filiform antennae and large, offset trochanters on the hind legs.
