Common Name: Scoliid Wasps

Description: Parasitoids of scarabaeid grubs. Often found around flowers, feeding on nectar.  May congregate in large numbers flying over lawns that have larger grub populations feeding on the roots.

Spot ID Key Characters:

  1. Hairy black body often with one or more yellow spots or bands on the abdomen
  2. Wing membrane with many small longitudinal wrinkles
  3. Males have three retractile spines at apex of abdomen
