Common Name:  Planthoppers

Description:  At least twelve families of small phytophagous insects are included in this superfamily.   They all have dorsal ocelli located beneath the compound eyes (on the sides of the head) rather than between the compound eyes (on top of the head).  Some groups have distinctive physical characteristics, but many of them are difficult to distinguish from one another.
